BE PREPARED IN AND OUT OF SEASON

2 Timothy 4:2 . Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage —with great patience and careful instruction. NIV

The English dictionary: To take the necessary action to put something in to a state where it is fit for use or action or for a particular event/purpose.

The parable of the 10 Virgins (Matthew 25:1-13)
The parable of the unprepared servant (Luke 12:35-40)
The coming of the Son of man is unknow (Matthew 24:36-44, 21:34, Mark 12:2, Luke 20:10, 12:40)

Why should we prepare in and out of season?

1. So that we can stand in the last days.

 2 Timothy  4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
Because God loves you so much that He can't afford to loose you, He wants you to be prepared before that time comes.
2 Timothy  3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. KJV

2. For the manifestation of God's power in us.

a. As Elijah prepared himself and the alter (2Kings 18:30)
b. As David prepared himself in the wilderness and brought down Goliath (1Samuel 17:40-51)
c. Like Daniel who never stopped praying.

3. So as not to miss the second (2nd) coming of Christ Jesus.

[44]You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.

Not be like the fig tree; Matthew 21:18-19
[18]In the morning, as Jesus was returning to Jerusalem, he was hungry,
[19]and he noticed a fig tree beside the road. He went over to see if there were any figs, but there were only leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” And immediately the fig tree withered up.

Not be like the five foolish virgines; Matthew 25:10,13
[10]“But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked.
[13]“So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.

4. So as not to miss God's visitation.

5. So as to be use for God's good works.

2 Timothy 2:20-21
[20]In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use.
[21]If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.

How are we going to prepare ourselvses?
What are the things we need to prepare ourselves in and out of season?

1. The word of God.

Joshuah 1:8, psalms 1:2, Deutronmy 11:18-20
You need the word of God to fight your battles, to stand in the last days, for the manifestation of God in and through you life, to prepare you for the 2nd coming of God, so that you will not miss the blessings of God, to prepare you for God's good works, etc.
Hebrews 4
[12]For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

2. Preaching the word and winning souls

2 Timothy  4:2 Preach the word;....
4:5 ...... do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
Proverbs  11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.
Romans  10:15 ...as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

3. Praying without ceasing

1 Thessalonians  5:17 Pray without ceasing.
Christ Jesu prayed always
Paul always prayed, Romans 1:9-10
Elijah prayed and it did rain; James 5:17
James 5:13
Pray in the spirit always,; Ephecians 6:18a

4. Pursue righteousnessrighteousness (the fruits of the Spirit)

Galatians  5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. NLT

Consequences of not preparing in and out of season.

1. Unable to enter into the kingdom of God (Matthew 25:10-13)
2. Be cursed (Matthew 21:19, Mark 12:2)
3. Lose the blessings of God.
4. Be cut down (Matthew 3:10, Luke 3:9)
5. Lose your battles / always be defeated.

Benefits of preparing in and out of season

1. Stand in the last days (difficult times)
2. God's power will manifest through you (1Kings 18:38-40)
3. Be use for God's good works (2Timothy 2:20-21)
4. Not miss the 2nd coming of Christ Jesus (Matthew 25:10)
5. Not be cursed but pruned to bear more good fruits (Psamls 92:12,1:1-13).
6. Win your battles (1Samuel 17:50-51).
7. Be blessed.
8. Will receive the crown of righteousness (2Timothy4:8).
